Default Remintong 511X

I shoot a old Rem. 511X. It shoots great with the elcheapo bulk bullets. Every so often you will here a round poop instead of pop and it will send a flyer out. This gun has had tons of ammo put through it in the last 35 years and other than the mag release breaking it has worked flawlessly. Groups will get bigger when the gun has about 50 rounds through it but a simple brush down the barrle a few times clears it right up. I do know that with thunderbolt shells it will shoot a dime size group at 25 yard, I got a wild hair one day and shot some shorts. The best I could do was about a 8 in group at 25yds. Needless to say I dont use those anymore.

hey dave,
i googled the 511x to see a picture of it but no luck.
I don't think I've ever seen one, but you gotta love a gun that's still accurate after 35 yrs!

Your groups with shorts is surprising. When I get references to the older post 1950 rifles, I tend to grab a Gun Digest and look it up. The 511's are nice basic rifles. I see no reason why a 35 year old rifle shouldn't shoot as well as a brand new 22 rifle. 22 barrels just don't wear out from rimfires.

The 511X had an updraded rear sight and a bit nicer of a stock on it than the 511 scoremaster. The 511P had a peep sight vs the barrel mounted open sights.
