Default 64 MPR and targets

Thought I'd share some photos of my .22 MPR. The stock is original, but the checkering was filled with Bondo, sanded, primered, and painted with a "hammered" finish. The scope is a Weaver T-36. The rubber grommets are something I've been playing with over the past month or so. The idea is to remove, or reduce barrell harmonics. Since installed, my groups have improved, but then again, it could have been a very good lot of Wolf MT, too. Still playing with them. We'll see. The action is resting on the pillars that came with the rifle, but it the action has also been bedded in epoxy. The photo of the targets was taken after the grommets were installed. The tartet in the upper left is the best ever for me. The one in the lower right is... well, it speaks for itself.

The spray paint is by Rustoleum. The color of the paint is not given on the label. All it says it that the color of the paint matches the cap. There's only about 8 colors to choose from, though. You can find the paint at most Home Depot stores.

I like that "hammered" finish. I used the black color on some ATV racks. It's very durable. Also I used the blue on some machinery at work. You have to be consistent when applying it so that the pattern stays the same throughout your object that your painting.

That is one sweet looking piece of steel.
Your Wolf ammo isn't why that puppy is so accurate, you've done your homework very well. Give us a bit more info on those grommets. They look like big O-rings. Rubber is one of the best vibration insulators available. Obviously it's working well for you. Is it legal for BR shooting? I'm new at BR accuracy shooting too and really want to learn the sport.

The grommets can be purchased at any Home Depot or Lowes Hardware stores and they come in various sizes. I just purchase the ones that looked like a tight fit. I had to use a dab of gun oil for them to slide easily. The placement and number of grommets is hit and miss. However, the idea of o-rings or grommets came from a benchrest shooter on the forum at rimfireshooting.com. He swears by them. In fact, he installed them on other rifles and all groups improved with the exception of one rifle. Take a peek at the forum under the topic of Benchrest Talk & Discussions. The thread is entitled "Suhl Home Made Turner".

As to whether they are legal in sanctioned matches, I really don't have a clue. I only shoot informally against myself.

As to whether they work, lets just say I'm still working with the placement and number. The last brick of Wolf MT that I bougt had a different lot number than when I first started playing with them and my groups went all to hell.

Hope this helps,

Ken

They should be legal in classes that allow tuners.
