I like to thread the receiver & turn down/thread a barrel blank for the best precision. I've had great luck with Lilja and Shilen. One thing to watch out for with Butler Creek barrels is loose chambers-sometimes they can be almost as sloppy as the factory barrels. When going "all out", groups of 1/4" at 50 yards are common with quality match grade ammo and good scope.

May be a little bit, I just ordered one of his CNC bolts. Then I'm going to resurect a old Yukon stock, pillar it and bed ,float the barrel........Just ,sort of, got done with a 17m2 -10/22 conversion.... still making adjustments. Only 50 down the pipe so far. Shows some promise. Shoot clean shoot clean, you know the drill....on the 3rd Moly-fusion treatment. Only a slight ballooning of the case bottoms, about every 5th one....Using Eley, GM 96 barrel, RT mid weight bolt, PC hammer in a 08 receiver, Yes, with the plastic T guard. Havn't done any trigger work yet, going for funtion 1st.

For me, I'll use a GM for a plinker. Have an ER Shaw for a .17M2 conversion that's a great performer and a Whistle Pig that's fantastic. Have another WP on order and if that comes out as I imagine it will (new finish look for them) I'll promptly order another from them. Build after that will get another GM just to fit the look yet still have more than enough performance for it's purpose.
