Trusty Ruger Standard
I have an older Ruger Standard model and it has always been one of the most accurate and dependable 22 pistols I have ever owned. Recently I was thinking of buying a Mark III/ or 22/45 and I was wondering what you folks think about the pistols, good or bad?

I have a Ruger Government Target Model Mark II (Stainless Slab Side Bull Barrel) and Love it.
To be honest - I wish I could shoot as good as this Ruger is capable of.
You wouldn't be disappointed with one of these.

That sounds about what I'm looking for. Mine has a tapered 6" barrel and I am looking for a bull barrel

I have always been pleased with my Mark II with 5.5" bull barrel. The trigger isn't great, but I could put a kit in it and remedy that if I choose. I mostly use it for non-serious target and plinking. Accuracy has been outstanding or as good as I can shoot it. It has been carried in the woods for general use more than a few times. I bought it to replace my High Standard Victor which I put into retirement at the time.
The Victor is back out of retirement as it has always shot so well. I went through a period where as guns started to become more valuable, I parked them and replaced them with something that I wouldn't mind getting the worn look, but I have since changed my view. They were bought to shoot and I don't care if it is worth $100 less because I shoot it. The exception have been Colt Diamondbacks. Just love those little revolvers in 22 but hate to take them out of the safe to shoot when I have a Smith Model 17 and 18 to play with.
You can't go wrong with a Mark II or III with the 5.5" bull barrel.

I realize I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but I've been trying different Ruger Mark 22 LR semi-autos for a couple of years now. I have had and used a Standard Model from 1963 or there abouts since it was new. None of the newer models measures up, just not as handy, smooth or reliable, all the new ones are more ammunition sensitive, while my original will feed anything and always has. I bought a new Bearcat in 1969($44.00) and used it until in 1982 I was offered more than I could refuse and let it go. I replaced it with a ANIB Colt Official Police 22 LR from 1956, just so I would have a 22 revolver. I tried out a new Browning BuckMark early this year and fell in love, it is not ammo sensitive and feels and fits very well, but my old Ruger is still the "go to 22" for me.
Thanks for letting me expound!!!!!!!

glad you brought this one back.
i've been trying to decide between the ruger, browning and the older colt woodsman.
i love the colts, but the desirable ones are in the $800 range, and this time, i'm not willing to pay the premium for the colt name. not when i can get a buckmark or ruger MK for under $400!
i'm planning to shoot the heck out of it, so i'm glad to hear a favorable report on the browning. ross swears by his ruger, so that's good enougfh for me.
now just need something with a longer target barrel so i can screw a can on it!

yep, mine is the 22/45.
it`s extremely accurate and extremely reliable!
anyone looking for a good reliable, accurate .22 pistol should look seriously at the rugers.
if it wasn`t for all the red tape we have to go through here to get them i`d buy more!!
