Default Savage 93 .17 HMR Free Float

Here is a picture of my Savage 93 .17 HMR. The barrel only free floats up to the ridge in the barrel. It does not float all the way up to the receiver. I don't believe that this will affect accuracy. The stock screws are torqued to 15 in. lbs.

It's the heavy barrel in the black plastic stock version. I ordered a laminate stock from Savage for it so I guess it's custom now  It shot about 1 MOA about a year ago but now the accuracy is suffering. I'm wondering if I have a bedding issue?

I have the 9317 BTV model, I was getting an 1.0 MOA groups but by using Limbsaver barrel De-resonator brought them down to 5/8 in no wind, the 17 has a lot of barrel vibration IMO,that and the wind is the enemy but they are fun to shoot.

That looks like something the benchrest guys would know about. How much improvement does it give as far as shrinking group size?

Hi just Joined !!

I just bought a Savage 22. wmr for my son a few days ago . I also have a Ruger 77/22 Mag and a Marlin .17 hmr . here is my sons new gun , he does not know it yet , and will not until he returns home in june .:)

does you front take down screw hole look like this ?? the wood does not go all the way around ? When i tighten this screw it pulls / bends the metal plate around the mag inward . There is also a 1/4 space between the wood and the lug the screw goes into on the barrel , so when you tighten this screw it bends the wood in very easy . I think i will add something in that gap .

his gun

Mine changed from 1.250 to .750, I do need to test different ammo with it.
