Ya I got a wild hair over the week & decided to put my 1st 10/22 build back to what it looked like in "95"
Back then all my parts came from Brownells and some from Midway.
This was all before I even had the E-net, all the info came from gun magazines, the rifle will look as did then with some up-grade tricks from the Net.
I did this to a 10/22 I bough new in 1977 or 78 I think & in the 90's there was this match called the "Chevy team challenge" and every body was building that style of rifle, pretty much what is called an ultimate now.

The first thing I bough was a heavy match .920 barrel & an Volquartsen hammer kit, Weaver T09 scope base.
The trigger pull was about 4 lbs and 1/2 the weight of the factory pull...life is good
My 10/22 had an factory walnut DSP stock & opened up the barrel channel, did a little glass bedding.
.Here is the 1995 bedding.

Shot the rifle like that for a couple of years...but didn't like the cheek weld & bought a Fajen unfinshed stock.
Boyd's gun stock company didn't exist at this time.

Well the Fajen stock was a fun project but was not to good as an bench rest stock, the stock is just great
as an off hand shooting machine but that's it & looked cool.
But did shoot some darn good scores shooting USBR @ 25 & 50 yards for two years on RFC.

So for the fun of it I am going back to the "95" look with upgrades.
Today I redid the barrel, she had the droops & the way I fixed that I glued the barrel in with red loctite
and set the barrel with these screws for the loctite to set up.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c229/bret111/Ruger project/100_3095.jpg

Worked too good, I ended up with a moon shooter barrel & shot the rifle that way for a few years.
Ran out of elevation on my scope fast past 50 yards.
Fixed that today with the 8-32 set screw trick in the barrel V-block wedge deal.
Can adjust as needed.

Ya I had to heat the barrel up with a Lp torch & had it smoking, but came apart.

More to come....soon.

Well back to the old 9-five
Installed the barrel & the set screw is doing its job, then put the rifle back together.
Had to install two paper shims in the stock fore arm tip bedding.
Will re-bed if works ok.

Next I dug threw my scope ring bone yard for the lowest scope mounts I could find.
Found some, then installed an BSA 4-16X40MM AO. nice cheek weld.
"Ta- dah" just like she looked like in 95 with the 20" hvy barrel....ready for a test drive this weekend. (ya for sure)

Maybe a Takdriver's forum game or two if everything checks out.

Cool rifle!

And man, that barrel just has the look of a real good shooter. Did you maybe get that barrel from Midway, back then?

Bough the barrel from Brownell's, she is a Douglas premium XX Air-gauged, smithed Tony's Powder horn.
Shot very good from the get-go.
Haven't target shot her serious since 2008.
Here is 2 ten shot groups I shot then @ 50 yards.

Ya I was pissed off for shooting poorly on the USBR target & let her fly with the last 2 fully loaded mags.
Best I ever shot with the barrel & receiver, trigger set up was 238-5X but avg. in the low 230's @ 50 yards in the two years of Green Monster fun.
What a pity this rifle was collecting dust in my gun cabinet since.
Should be interesting this weekend.

Very nice rifle swiss as I like that one a lot! Dont let that green sissy get your goat. I have had good days and bad but there is no money changing hands so this is for fun only. Mostly shooting against yourself. 220 is not a bad score!

Thanks.
The Green Monster is a real mental game, I have shot 2 & 1/2 box's of them targets.
But learned allot & am out of them targets now.

wow you have shot more than I have. Shooting the usbr or the tack game at 50 will teach you a lot. I will have to remake the 50 yard 3/8" tack game now and I dont know.

Has the original factory finish.

Here is something I did to the receiver, well both of my 10/22's.
I didn't like the sloppy fit of the trigger group with the factory pins, did replace with cut off drill bits also.
But still wasn't happy, so I drilled & taped for 2 6-32 set screw on each side of the receiver and one in the back.

Works very well & can't see them when the rifle is all together.
I just snug up all with an allen wrench.

I agree. Got a 'Blue Collar' look. Or maybe more like a gangsta'. Big ole' canon with a nice suit.
